I was vaguely aware that Helen was unwell but when I heard of her passing I was shocked and dismayed for all concerned; particularly her children. Helen was a strong woman and a wonderful partner to Shane. From their years running the milk bar in Heidelberg (Get to close early Christmas Day otherwise go go go all year. so typical of them both to be so industrious), their business in the NDT world; their keen participation in the Gun Club and of course their devotion to their family. It was always notable that Helen was the rock; the focal point around which the families grew. in my rare visits to Helen's place I was always greatly impressed (and a little envious)by her green thumb. That ability to grow and nurture things is clearly reflected in her children and her long time relationship with Shane. I am sure her kids will live strong lives because of her care and love. Helen was also close to mum for many many years and that too was reflected in mum's kind words of Helen over the years. Helen will be missed.

I had many happy teenage moments with Helen. She was great friends with my mum. I then moved away and we lost contact. However, many years later when my daughter started school in year 9, at broadford secondary college, she became best friends with Rhys. I then drove Rhys and a tribe of other kids to school on my school bus. Rhys would come home to our place and I would drive him home. Never really meeting his parents this went on for quite awhile. We then went to the year 10 orientation and my daughter sat up the aisle from Rhys. She said there’s Rhys with his mum. I just stopped in my tracks. There was Helen. A lady whom I’d looked upto as a teenager. We were both quite shocked. A memory I will treasure always…. My love goes out to you Rhys and family xxxx. Forever in my memories. Sharryn Sheehy
